5 Male Masturbation Myths Debunked

Masturbation is perhaps one of life’s greatest pleasures. Plus its free! Having at it, not only pumps up endorphins in your brain, it also comes with a myriad of health benefits. Now considering the fact that most of us has been indoors for the past year or so, it is certainly not uncommon to find stacks and stacks of used tissues in one’s wastepaper basket as we are all “Stroking the Shaft” a little more than usual.

That said, there are some people till today, that have sworn off this glorious act for rather… absurd yet interesting reasons. So now, we shall explore some of these reasons as well as debunking them thanks to Rena Malik, MD who has addressed five of the most common misconceptions about masturbation.

1. Masturbation Will Make You Go Blind

Okay…. what? Turns out, there are some people out there who think that “Poaching Your Egg” will make you blind. According to Malik, these misconception stems from traditional as well as religious beliefs that are simply misguided as there are no concrete scientific evidences that suggest so.

2. “Beating Your Meat” Will Ruin Your Erections

According to Malik, “Masturbation, when leading to orgasm, actually causes contraction of the pelvic floor muscles, and these muscles are super important for having orgasms, and also being able to experience pleasure, so when you’re actively exercising those muscles, you will have better orgasms and probably a better sex life.”

That said, she does acknowledge that since the advent of accessible pornography, there has been an increase in erectile dysfunction in young men. This however is attributed to a mental condition rather than a physical one. She goes on to state, “This is possibly due to the fact that porn can create unrealistic expectations of what sex is like, and desensitize consumers to sexual stimulation. This in turn, can create a kind of ‘performance anxiety’ in real-life sexual encounters.”

Once again, she also attributes this misconception to religious beliefs where if an individual conducts the ‘blasphemous’ act of self-pleasure, he may feel a certain degree of guilt or shame thus resulting in a psychological disorder which in turn lead to the inability to get a proper erection.

3. “Blowing Your Own Horn” Too Much Reduces Your Sensitivity

While it certainly isn’t true, there are a few instances that can lead ‘reduced sensitivity’. This only occurs when a particular individual has been masturbating the same way for all his life which leads to the penis being used to such sensations. Therefore, every now and then, you might want to try different methods to “Get You Off” such as applying lube, changing the motion as well as the pressure that you are currently using and even switching hands.

4. Masturbating Too Much Is Bad

While excessive masturbation can lead to certain peculiar glances here and there, it simply isn’t “bad”. As a matter of fact, some doctors even prescribe masturbation as a form of stress and pain relief. Recent studies even show that men are supposed to masturbate as frequent as 21 times a months. So if your mates judges you for “wanking” all the time, tell them that you’re doing it for the sake of your health!

5. “Wrestling The Eel” Means You Have a Bad Relationship

As Malik so eloquently put it, “Many people in partnered relationships masturbate separately, this is not a reflection of the amount of love your partner has for you, or vice-versa. This is an activity that may actually improve your sex life overall.”

Therefore, you shouldn’t feel ashamed or hesitant to masturbate despite being in a relationship or even married as it might spice up your relationship even further. It may also lead to discovery of new ‘kinks’ (wink wink).
